MIGRAIN Assessment 1: learner response
1) Type up your feedback in full (you don't need to write the mark and grade if you want to keep this confidential).
WWW: You are able to analyse media products to a satisfactory standard whilst applying knowledge and understanding if media terminology
EBI:
1) Revise narrative codes (Todorovs, Propps). These were missing for Q1.
2)Q3 was about genre - revise genre theories - make flash cards

2) Read the mark scheme carefully (this will be posted on your Google Classroom. Identify at least one potential point that you missed out on for each question in the assessment.
Q3) Abercrombie states genre permits the creation and maintenance of a loyal audience.
Q1) Narative codes suggesting action and violence - genre of order (Shatz)
Q2) Both products show how society plays a role in shaping peoples lives
3) Read this exemplar response from a previous Year 12 (an A grade) - note this was a slightly different paper in terms of the question wording and also had an additional question 4 (we've updated it to better reflect recent exams). Identify at least one potential point for questions 1-3 from this student's paper that you could have mentioned in your assessment.
In question 1 I could’ve mentioned how the props used link to Todorov’s theory but also how the audience already has some pre existing knowledge.
In question 2 I could’ve talked about how society has influences this media products (the actor in the Nike advert having to play sports rather than study due to his class) which is cultural context
In question 3 I could’ve mentioned genre theories such as Abercrombie and Neale
4) Did you get any media terminology or theory wrong in the assessment? Make a note of it here for future revision, including theories/terminology that you could have used but didn't.
Nothing but I failed to mention media genre theories such as Abercrombie, Neale and Shatz as well as narrative theories such as Todorovs and Propps.
5) Identify your weakest question and write three bullet points that would improve on your original response. Use the mark scheme and exemplar paper to identify these points - particularly focusing on the anticipated content and the top level descriptors.

I think question 3 was my weakest question as I didn’t mention any genre theories.
- Genre important for audiences: expectations, character, plot
- Genre important for producers
- Neale “repetition and difference” - produces can evolve a genre and maintain an audience
- Abercrombie - Genre permits the creation and maintenance of a loyal audience
